the lab
Through the activities hosted at the Lab, Cimatheque aims to support the growing community of analogue practitioners in Egypt, allowing visual artists and filmmakers to experiment with the medium while bringing long unseen films back to life. You can view some of the films that have been made in the lab here.
The lab entails a dark room and hand-processing facilities. Alongside this, you will find everything from 8mm & 16mm cameras to film stock, lomo tanks, moviolas and projectors.
The lab is equipped with a 8, 9 ,16 & 35mm film scanner, a prototype allowing old and new films to be digitized and preserved in digital cinema 2K quality.
Introductory workshops in analogue film practice are held regularly, and open to all. We also have a workshop programme for more advanced users, and a range of online tutorials and resources.
Opening hours
The lab editing and viewing space is open daily from XPM until XPM. The darkroom opens upon reservation, X days a week from Xam until Xam.
